Russian director Karen Shakhnazarov has been invited to attend a screening of his film in the Classics Preserved section at the 36th Fajr Int'l Film Festival in Iran.

Shakhnazarov is invited to attend a screening of his 1991 political drama 'The Assassin of the Tsar' during the Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF) in April, organizers announced on Thursday.

The Russian director's presence at the upcoming FIFF is yet to be finalized.

'The Assassin of the Tsar' and six other restored classic hits from world cinema have been selected to screen in the Classics Preserved section of the festival.

The movie is about a Soviet doctor who treats a schizophrenic who insists he killed Nicholas II and his family in 1918.

Karen Shakhnazarov is an award-winning Russian director who has claimed a trophy in tribute to Russian cinema during the 16th Marrakech International Film Festival in Marrakech, Morocco.

The 36th edition of the Fajr International Film Festival will be held in the Iranian capital city of Tehran from April 19-27.
